Pittsburgh Summer Beerfest

What did you do this weekend?

Me, I went to Pittsburgh, PA for the 6th annual summer beer fest. I took Ryan with me and we had a blast! We danced, drank and pretty much vowed that we’d be back next year.

There were hundreds of beers to try from over a hundred breweries. There was even live music from The Lava Game and the event was one big party! One highlight was getting to meet Mark Brewer and talk about his book “Brewology”. He not only wrote it, he illustrated it as well. He gave me a signed copy and I got to take a picture with him. He was awesome to talk to and I can’t wait to read it!

The big highlight was getting to try beer that I’ve never had or had even heard of. I wanted to list all of my new favorites, but that’d be too long of a post. So I’ll have to settle on my top 5.

1. Jack’s Pear Cider- It was so sweet and flavorful. It was very light and refreshing, probably my all-time favorite of the night.
2. Lavery Dulachan- This was a grapefruit IPA that I fell in love with. Lavery is based in Erie, PA, and Ryan and I both agreed that our next trip will be up to visit them.
3. Sprecher Brewing Co. Hard Root Beer- So much better than Not your Father’s. I’m not hating on  NYF’s but this root beer was so sweet and full of vanilla. It also didn’t have the weird aftertaste that NYF’s has.
4. Wyndridge Mojito Cider- I am usually not a fan of mojitos but this cider demanded that I love it. It was minty and refreshing without being overpowering.
5. Sobel’s Obscure Brewery Peachy Pilsner- This brew was super peachy and reminded me a bit of champagne. I felt fancy drinking it. It wasn’t too sweet, it was just right.

This weekend was perfect for beer tasting and spending time with my boy. The North Shore area is beautiful and nothing is as breathtaking as walking down the Alleghany at night. Look for us next year. Pittsburgh Summer Beerfest, we’ll be back.
